Position Description:
A postdoctoral research associate position is available in an Animal Food Safety and Food Microbiology Lab at the Animal Science Department, Auburn University. Research projects will include but not limited to: 1, pre-harvest isolation and identification of zoonotic pathogens (especially, Shiga-toxin producing Escherichia coli, E. coli O157:H7 and Salmonella) from farm, fecal, and environmental samples; 2, post-harvest detection and control of zoonotic pathogens. Responsibilities will include conducting experiments using cell-based methods, PCR, real-time PCR, Pulse Field Gel Electrophoresis etc. The candidate will also be responsible for data analysis and preparation of written reports and presentations. The candidate should 1, have a clear understanding of basic microbiology terminologies, techniques and characteristics of zoonotic pathogens; 2, demonstrate good oral and written communication/English skills as well as analytical and problem solving skills.

Minimum Qualifications:
1) Ph.D. in Microbiology, Veterinary, Food Microbiology, Animal Science or related discipline
2) Extensive experience with microbes (bacteria)
3) Experience with basic molecular technologies
4) Experience with statistical analysis (e.g., SAS or similar software)
5) Documented ability to communicate effectively in English
6) Ability to work in a team-oriented environment

Available data: April 2012 (actual start-date is negotiable)
