Science jobs from Professor Daryoosh Vashaee: job description

Subject:
Focus is on developing nanocomposite bulk thermo electric materials for energy harvesting.

Thermoelectric materials can convert heat directly into electricity, which has broad applications such as solar thermal energy harvesting, waste heat recovery in cars and at industry, geothermal energy harvesting, and in NASA space missions.

Duties:
Depending on the candidates expertise duties may include:

-Nanocomposites synthesis using mechanical alloying and hot pressing

-Thermal, electrical, and optical characterizations of the grown samples

-Device fabrication

Expertise expected:

-Familiar with semiconductor physics and quantum mechanics
-Strong hand in experimental tools

Other expectations:

-Careful to handle contamination free processes
-Creative, positive, hard worker, and persistent

Note:

The position is available immediately until it is filled. The student is located in Helmerich Advanced Technology Research Center (HATRC). HATRC is a new materials research center in Tulsa, Oklahoma that started its work in November 2007. It hosts specialized laboratories that enables faculty and students to focus on the state of the art research in different areas including nanomaterials and MEMS. The student will have special opportunities to be involved in setting up experiments and learn neat physics in the area of nano science and engineering.
