Mobile Computing and Wireless Systems Research
Singapore Management University
(http://www.sis.smu.edu.sg)
Singapore Management University (SMU's) School of Information Systems (SIS) is pursuing several groundbreaking research projects in the areas of mobile computing, smartphone-based rich context sensing and real-time behavioural analytics capabilities. The research technologies will be deployed and tested in multiple planned globally-unique large-scale (thousands of everyday consumers) research testbeds, deployed at SMU's downtown campus and large shopping malls in Singapore.
As part of these project activities, we are soliciting candidates interested in pursuing research for a Ph.D. in Information Systems at SMU, with a special focus on mobile systems, advanced telco network infrastructures and context-aware computing middleware. The typical profile of our Ph.D. students includes a Bachelor's degree with good honours, or a Master's Degree, in relevant disciplines, such as Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Information Systems or Statistics. We're particularly interested in candidates looking to conduct research in one or more of the following areas:
* Mobile O/S internals (e.g., Linux, Android) and kernel-level network programming
* Mobile Computing Technologies (e.g., virtualization, localization, sensing & activity recognition)
* Mobile Application Frameworks and Technologies (e.g., Mobile browsers/Web services, Javascript/Ajax, Cloud computing)
* Wireless and Telco Network Protocols (e.g., Femtocells, IMS, Network Management Systems etc.)
We are soliciting applications from candidates interesting in starting in the Ph.D. program either in Jan 2012 or Aug 2012. As part of the SMU-located Living Analytics Research Center (LARC, http://www.larc.smu.edu.sg/), selected Ph.D. students will partake in a special overseas training residency at CMU's Pittsburgh campus for up to 10 months. More details about the application process for the Ph.D. program (including requirements and application procedure) at SIS, SMU are available at: http://www.sis.smu.edu.sg/programme/PhD/index.asp.
Although our regular admission cycle is now closed, appropriate candidates with the relevant skills will be considered for priority and expedited admission into the Ph.D. program starting Jan 2012. Candidates interested in pursuing a Ph.D. should contact Prof. Archan Misra (http://www.sis.smu.edu.sg/faculty/infosys/archanm.asp) immediately via email at: archanm@smu.edu.sg, with a copy of their CV.
