The Computational Comparative Genomics Lab led by Jian Ma at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is looking for motivated PhD students to join the group.
Students with the following two types of background are particularly welcome:
1) Students with strong computational background. Students are expected to solve challenging problems raised in practice and to design algorithms and tools to facilitate making biological and biomedical discoveries.
2) Students with solid background in biology and an enormous enthusiasm to use computational methods to answer exciting questions.
Potential projects will be developing methods for analyzing genomic data (including next-generation sequence data) to elucidate cross-species differences and within-species variation and their associations with disease.
