Opportunities of PhD scholarships at Macquarie University, Sydney
We seek two suitable PhD candidates for PhD program scholarship applications for either Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES) or China Scholarship Council (CSC)+ Macquarie University scholarship top-up.
The successful candidates will undertake PhD research with an Australian Research Council funded (internationally orientated) team for Advancement of Cytometry, at MQPhotonics Research Centre of Macquarie University, Sydney. The detailed projects need to be discussed with the supervisors Dr. D. Jin and Prof. J. Piper, but within the two bio-sensing areas: 1). Biochemistry (micro-nano-particle science and biology-chemistry interface); 2). Advanced cell analysis (e.g. flow cytometry techniques, or nano-drug delivery)
The ideal applicants are expected to provide with evidence of research background in chemistry, biochemistry, or cell biology. Master of Science degree is not required for outstanding students with excellent academic records during undergraduate study towards Bachelor of Science degree. International applicants are expected to pass the IELTS scores of 7.0 band before starting projects (6.5 is essential for scholarship application). It is desirable for applicants with international journal publications and other academic awards.
The conditions of award are generally the same as the Australian Postgraduate Award Scheme (APA). A living allowance is paid at the current APA rate (currently AU$22,500 per year tax exempt in 2010 for international students). International applicants will also receive tuition funding (AU$ 27,825 per year) for the tenure of their award. NOTE: This scholarship is designed for PhD research only; there is no teaching assistant responsibility required, so that the candidate can focus on the research during the 3 to 3.5 year PhD candidature.
Further information regarding these projects, may be obtained by contacting the supervisors: Dr . Jin and Prof. J. Piper at jin@science.mq.edu.au
